Well, she may not have been married afterall, but I heard Nicole Richie and her partner Joel Madden delighted kids in Los Angeles on Thursday (22Oct09) by opening a new playground in the city. The couple created the Richie-Madden Foundation in 2007 to raise money for children's charities, and the organization helped fund a new play park in conjunction with Beyond Shelter, which tackles homelessness and poverty. The pair was on hand to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the Richie-Madden Playground and spent some time talking to local kids.

Richie took to her Twitter.com page after the event to thank everyone involved in the project, writing: "Thank you to everyone who participated in the campaign. We are giving these children a chance to have an imagination & be free." Madden was honored for his charity work at the Noble Awards ceremony in Beverly Hills last Sunday (18Oct09), picking up the night's top prize for his dedication to The Art of Elysium, an organization that helps sick children.
